My Fluid Art Process
While each painting is unique, part of the process is learning to let go of the outcome. This has been the most challenging and addicting part of working with this medium. With each pour, there is a certain amount of reckless abandon combined with thoughtful, controlled techniques and choices that often result in the unexpected. Learning to navigate the surprise element of each painting, and work it to my advantage, makes this type of painting one of the most intriguing I’ve ever experienced.
Colors
Each color is mixed to just the right tone, shade & consistency, and most of them are unique handmade blends created in the moment. Some paints are thinner or thicker, depending on the effect desired. I love working with metallics, and many of my paintings have a shimmering effect when light is reflected.
Techniques
There are so many techniques used in my art, I have been known to utilize objects around me to manipulate the paint - including plastic, crumpled up paper towels, cups, silicone, modeling paste, alcohol inks, funnels, resin..you name it!
The Best Archival Paints
After thoughtful and careful attention to the colors, I manipulate the paints to anticipate how they will flow and mix on the canvas with each other.
Knowing some color theory, how paints respond to each other when they mix, the different densities, understanding viscosities and the role they play in the outcome and getting familiar with the techniques, all play a role in how the painting evolves.
